Thirty years on, Santoor Ashram, a philanthropic music ashram started by Pt Tarun Bhattacharya, in association with Allahabad Bank brought the Golden Trio Pt Viswamohan Bhatt, Pt Tarun Bhattacharya and Pt Dayashankar along with Bickram Ghosh as a tribute to the legendary music maestro Pt Ravi Shankar for jam on stage. The event started at 7 PM at Tollygunge Club, AC Tent and the two-hour concert was enchanted music lovers with their classical fusion. ‘Repeating History – The Golden Trio’ featured Bhatt on his invention, the mohanveena (a modified Hawaiian slide guitar), Bhattacharya on the santoor and Dayashankar on the shehnai.
The three are the best disciples of the late Pt Ravi Shankar and this trio was formulated by the legendary music maestro in the mid-1980s. They took the world by storm with their classic fusion music, touring all over Europe, the UK, the US and Canada. In 1994, Bickram Ghosh joined the trio on the tabla.
While describing the ‘Repeating History – The Golden Trio’, Bhattacharya said, “It’s a tribute to our guruji Pt Ravi Shankar. He’s always with us, in spirit if not in body.”
We, at Digital Imperia, were proud to be a partner of this historic event.
