Social media channels have to constantly keep on upgrading themselves in order to retain their users. Introducing new features to making changes on existing ones, all possible measures are taken. Keeping this trend in mind, Twitter has made its latest changes. On 12th November, 2013, a new addition was done in the form of custom timeline. With this introduction, you can now have more control over the organization and delivery of tweets. As the name suggests, you can create these timelines yourself as per your choice. If you want to know more about this new feature of Twitter, have a look at this post.
How does it Work?
You can name the custom timeline and select the tweets to be added there. You can either do it manually or programmatically with the help of an API. Now when there is any conversation related to any topic, you can create your own timeline which will have relevant tweets as per your choice. Others can follow your timeline as it will be public. Each timeline has a separate page on the site and you can easily share it. Once people start following your timeline, they will be able to see your tweets in real time as you go on adding them. These timelines can also be embedded on your website if you like as they are a part of the Twitter for Websites toolkit.
How you can use Custom Timeline?
You can use custom timeline to let people know about the best tweets of your choice that are related to any particular event. You can similarly get to know about other choices by looking at their timelines. Custom timelines can be used for creating your own collection of tweets on topics that are close to your heart or to provide information to others. You can follow others timelines and get a good following yourself.
Right now, custom timelines cannot be created from the website itself. If you are using TweetDeck, you can easily create such a timeline. Via TweetDeck, you can easily create, add and share your timeline with other Twitter users.
Use of API
As mentioned earlier, you can either add the tweets by yourself, or you can do it programmatically with the help of API. The custom timeline API beta will help you to program your timeline on the basis of your logic. This will mean that you no longer have to add tweets with your own hand. You can also build tools using which, others can create their custom timelines just like TweetDeck. However, this API will not be available to everybody for use.
If you are not yet using TweetDeck, get started, if you really want to create your own custom timeline in Twitter.
